Chi Kung and Tai Chi Tsao
Chi Kung simply means ‘work on your Chi’ and mainly relates to exercises both physical and psychological to enable free movement of energy. By psychological I mean using the mind-intention, by physical I refer to static or moving postures. In effect, tai Chi is in itself Chi Kung.
Tai Chi Tsao often described as loosening exercises, these for me at least are a way of relating to the main elements of Tai Chi. Encompassing releasing, expanding, circling, rooting or grounding.
Essential practice in fully understanding and playing Tai Chi Chuan. Learning to ‘read’ an intention to listen (Ting Jin) to respond in an appropriate way. It is primarily a practice method with no ‘winner’ to flow freely from one technique to another. Important in finding the tension otherwise unseen in the body.
Generally Form refers to a collection of postures or a sequence thereof.
There are many varieties of Tai Chi styles and therefore many sequences each having their own merit and focus. Form practise alone seldom results in a full understanding of Tai Chi Chuan. To be treated as an integral part of practise not an end in itself.
Definitions – language problems –
One of the key areas of misunderstanding is in interpretation of phrases and texts.

It conjure thoughts of a sofa, or maybe sitting somewhere remote or maybe collapsing somewhere in a heap?
In the context of practice it can simply mean – use only enough effort required to perform a specific task – no more- no less
Postures and positions are important to enable an understanding of grounding and uprooting. It is however important to balance practice of the static and movement to maintain integrity during transitions between postures. Corrections need to be both in transition and statically.
The Application for..
This can be a confusing term often limiting the understanding of the intended posture or technique. An application or interpretation would be more useful
This in itself has such a broad context from ‘Chi’ to brute force. The term often use as something mystical.
Generally, any force (energy) applied to your system one feels immediately under stress. It is therefore your response (energy) that needs to be in balance in order to give an adequate and appropriate response to said attack.
This attack may be physical, psychological or perceived. Being aware as this is part of the practice.
